Sanitas gym etiquette: the 7 rules

We don’t have many rules, but the ones we do have keep our gym fun, safe, and welcoming. Here’s the refresher (with a little humor, because… well, burpees aren’t funny).

1. Treat Others How You Want to Be Treated

Be polite. Say hi. Move sled posts for the next athlete. Done cleaning your stuff? Help someone else.
Echo Bike screens: reset to 0 (2 reds + 1 green). Nobody wants your sweaty calorie count as a starting point.

2. Clean Up (We Don’t Have a Magic Fairy)

  • Put plates, dumbbells, and bands back where they belong.

  • Wipe down your gear (and sweat puddles).

  • Bathrooms = 100+ users/day. Wipe the counters, replace the TP if you finish it, tell a coach if paper towels are out.
Think “roommate rules” — only with 100 roommates.

3. Respect the Brief & the Coach

When the coach is briefing, it’s their time—so listen up. Sound carries, and if you’re chatting during the brief, everyone around you can hear (not just the coach). You might be fine with ignoring the instructions, but others aren’t. It’s rude, and it makes life harder for everyone. You’ll have plenty of time to chat before and after class, so keep the chatter for later.

4. Class Etiquette: Finish as a Team

We’re a CrossFit gym—we support each other. That means:

  • Don’t start stripping bars while others are still working.

  • Cheer, clap, or just be present until the last rep is done.

  • Metcons, back squats, strength work… the details may differ, but the principle is the same: we finish together.

5. Respect the Equipment

  • Don’t drop empty barbells.

  • Don’t slam dumbbells from overhead.

  • Rowers and bikes are not crash-test dummies—treat them kindly.

  • Chalk: grip aid, not a snowstorm. Clean it up.

6. Check Your Ego (Seriously)

Scale smart. Listen to your body. No one’s impressed by ugly lifts or fudged reps. Full range of motion > whiteboard score. Integrity > PRs.

7. Be a Good Human

Accidentally bump someone? Say sorry.
New face in class? Say hi.
Community > competition.
Rudeness, negativity, or disrespect = zero tolerance.

Final Word

None of this is complicated: treat people well, clean up after yourself, respect the space, and cheer loud. Do that, and Sanitas stays the kind of gym people love walking into.

And if you think there’s something else we should be doing—class-related, gym-related, or business-related—tell us. A few hundred heads are better than a handful, and we love your input.
