benji Robinson: September Member of the Month

Congratulations to Benji Robinson, our September Member of the Month! A dedicated member for 8 years and a consistent face at the 5:30am class, Benji shows up day in and day out ready to put in the work. His commitment, effort, and intensity in every workout sets the tone for the entire class.

We are lucky to have you in our Sanitas community, Benji!

1. Tell us about yourself! Family, hobbies, where did you grow up?

I grew up in Helena, MT.  Sports were a big part of my life as I played football, basketball and ran track growing up.  I attended Carroll College, where I continued playing football. Since then, I’ve lived in Denver, San Francisco, and now Boulder for the last 9 years, which means I’ve been at Crossfit Sanitas for about 8 years!? I’m married to Alexis and we have three daughters, two in college and one is a junior in high school.  And 13 pets...

2. What’s your favorite thing about being a member at Sanitas?

As I travel for work or vacation, I try to drop into Crossfit boxes on occasion.  I’ve done this throughout the US and internationally.  I’ve yet to find another box that can match Crossfit Sanitas’ coaching knowledge, facility quality and sheer professionalism.  We are very lucky to have Sanitas in our backyard.

And...the 5:30am crew that shows up so consistently and pushes me much harder than I would ever push myself.  It’s a great group and definitely one of the best things about Sanitas!

3. What’s one piece of advice you would give to yourself on your first day, knowing everything you know now?

You either get better or you get worse with each day…you don’t stay the same.  So each day at Crossfit, I can work on something to improve a movement or a technique, or I can form a bad habit and actually get worse.  It’s about making small, positive, incremental improvements every day.

4. What’s one challenge you’ve overcome recently, and how did you push through?

Last Saturday I completed my second sprint triathlon.  Let’s just say, swimming is not my strongest event.  I swam off course a bit and then I over exerted to make up for it, which made matters worse.  I had to take a few deep breaths, settle down, and get back into the rhythm.  I was questioning my decision to do this while I was in the water…then I perked up on the bike…by the run I was the “lookin good!…almost there!” guy.  Crazy swing of emotions.

5. 3 or more favorite movements

Power clean

Push press

Running (is that a movement?)

Pull-ups (love-hate)

6. Numbers that are meaningful to you

#6 was my college number.  My daughters adopted it as their volleyball number. So, lucky #6 it is.
